Hello all and welcome to your cello practice notes! Just a few things from todays lesson....

1) please make sure your chair/stool at home is low enough that your knees and hips are level and that your feet are flat on the floor. (Watch out for the feet police!)

2) make sure you pick up and put down your cello carefully - I suggest always picking it up with your left hand round the neck of the cello.

3) remember the mouse on your shoulder! (Adjust the spike height if necessary.)

For practice:

1) Lazy left hand - pluck 4 walks on each string with your 1st finger, right hand. Start on your C string. Can you remember the names of your strings? (Hint.....Cats Go Down Alleyways!) Try some other rhythms - for example 'walk, walk, jogging, walk'......or types of pizza - for example 'pepperoni pizza'.

2) Willow Waltz (from Vamoosh Cello Book 1) - have a go at plucking this.

3) Strumming - with your right arm, draw a big circle in the air (anticlockwise) and as you pass across the strings, strum across all four strings with your 1st finger.

4) Watch and play along with Sarah's video of 'Sway and Strum'.

Please can you buy copies of Cello Time Starters and Vamoosh Cello Book 1, and, if you havent already, please purchase some rosin (we will need this for the bow in a few weeks time).
