RNCM Discovery
RNCM Discovery is a search engine that allows you to search across most of the RNCM Library’s resources, both physical and digital. This includes journals, articles, dictionaries, music, books, music streaming services and ebooks.
How to access RNCM Discovery
You can access RNCM Discovery both on-site and off-site. Just use the search box on the Library online resources page of RNCM Moodle. You will then be prompted to enter your Athens login details (for more information see our Electronic resources guide)
What does RNCM Discovery search?
As well as the Library’s physical resources, RNCM Discovery also searches most of the RNCM Library’s online resources. These include journals, e-books, videos, audio, and dictionaries. Some of the resources are:
- RNCM Library catalogue
- Grove Music Online
- JSTOR Journals
- Music Index
- Naxos Music Library, Video Library and Jazz
- Oxford Bibliographies
- RILM Abstracts of Music Literature
- Rock’s backpages
What doesn’t RNCM Discovery search?
There are some resources that are not accessible by RNCM Discovery so you will need to search these resources separately:
- IPA Source
- Music Performance Research
- Periodical Archive Online
- Proquest Dissertations and Theses
These resources are listed on the Further Resources section of RNCM Discovery.
My Account
Set up My Account from the toolbar on the top of the screen so that you can save your searches, relevant articles, get alerts when the latest edition of a journal is available, or even choose your preferred interface language. You can even email your saved searches to other users.
(Please note that My Account is set up by you and is not connected to your Library or Athens accounts.)
Tips for getting the most from RNCM Discovery
- If you’re looking for something that’s actually in the Library (e.g. a piece of sheet music) then limit your search by selecting All Filters, then ticking the “Library resources only” filter.
- Use the filters under the search bar to reduce the number of results. You can filter by source type, publication, content provider and more.
- Use the advanced search option to be able to add more detailed search criteria.
- Use the Cite option above each search result to get citation information on the resource.
