Accessing electronic resources

You can search most of our online resources simultaneously through RNCM Discovery

Onsite

You can access all of the Library's electronic resources from College via the links on the Library pages of RNCM Moodle.

Off-site

Most electronic resources can be accessed off site via your Athens account or from the links on the Library pages of RNCM Moodle. Please note: some electronic resources cannot be accessed outside of the College.

Athens

Athens is an access management system that allows you to access most of the Library’s electronic resources outside of the College. All students are given an Athens username and password on registration. This is sent to your RNCM email address. If you forget it, you can reset it by going to the Athens website http://www.openathens.net/ and following the link for Login help.

Electronic books

Several titles on reading lists are now available as electronic books. They are listed on the Library catalogue with their web address. Off-site access is through Athens.

Electronic journals

The Library subscribes to a wide range of e-journals. Most can be accessed via JSTOR as well as other providers such as Sage Online and Oxford Journals Online.

JSTOR

Full-text database of multi-disciplinary journals. For music these include; Popular Music, Nineteenth Century Music, American Music, British Journal of Ethnomusicology, Cambridge Opera Journal and Musical Times.

IPAsource - International phonetic alphabet transcriptions

IPA transcriptions and translations of opera arias and art song texts, includes over 5500 texts. Please note: this resource can only be accessed on-site at the RNCM.

Music Index

A database which indexes and abstracts articles about music, musicians and the music industry from more than 475 periodicals. It also covers book reviews, obituaries and musical news.

Oxford Music Online

Including the New Grove dictionary of music and musicians as well as the Oxford dictionary of music and the Oxford companion to music, Oxford music online is an easily searchable music dictionary and biography, covering practically all areas of musical interest.

RILM Abstracts of Music Literature

Contains approx. 600,000 abstracts of all document types of music based literature and is updated regularly. It subject coverage includes western classical, popular, folk, jazz, ethnomusicology, psychology and historical musicology.

RISM –Répertoire International des Sources Musicales

National and International database of musical sources e.g. manuscripts, printed music and where they are located. Records include source description and incipits of key themes.

Audio-Visual

The Library subscribes to Berliner Philharmoniker Digital Concert Hall, medici.tv, Naxos Music Library, Naxos Music Library: Jazz and Naxos Video Library. For more information on how to access these please see the AV resources guide.
