Who is Judith Weir?
She studied composition with John Tavener during her schooldays before studying Music at Cambridge University.
The first woman to hold
the position of Master of the Queen’s Music. The post has existed since 1625
and it took 388 years for a woman to be appointed to the post.

Forest
Forest was written for CBSO (for whom she was resident composer) and premiered in 1995 under Simon Rattle and has since been performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2019 at Queen Elizabeth Hall and by the BBC Symphony Orchestra at The 2019 Proms. It has also been recorded by BBC Symphony Orchestra and Martyn Brabbins.
