Named Awards
Named Awards are scholarships and bursaries allocated to students experiencing challenges in meeting the costs of their tuition and living expenses.
Each year, the RNCM distributes around £1.3m in student support through Named Awards, provided by donations from individuals, charitable trusts, legacy gifts and funds from our Student Awards Fund to ensure musical talent is not held back by financial need.
The RNCM Development Team raises funds from a wide range of supporters for Named Awards.
If you receive a scholarship or bursary during your studies, this may be “matched” to a Named Award from one of these supporters. If so, you will be contacted by the Development Team at the start of the academic year to confirm who your award is sponsored by and anything you are required to do as a result, for example:
· Writing introductory letters, brief updates and thank yous to your supporters (usually three per year)
· Representing the RNCM by meeting them at events, concerts and recitals where possible
· Letting them know if you have any performances coming up or online content they can visit
It is essential you submit any requested updates to the deadlines given - they help RNCM maintain positive relationships with donors, who in turn continue to support emerging talent by funding scholarships and bursaries for years to come. Regular updates from you make a difference to the strength of the RNCM’s relationship with donors and leave a legacy of support enabling other RNCM students to benefit in the future. Failure to provide updates will be reported to the Head of School.
If you have any contacts who you think might be interested in providing support for students who would otherwise struggle to meet the costs of training at the RNCM – please let us know!
